6-year-old Salecia Johnson.

Milledgeville police said they were called to Creekside Elementary School on Friday for an unruly juvenile, who was allegedly throwing a tantrum.

According to their report, when the officer arrived, he observed kindergartner Salecia Johnson on the floor of the principal's office screaming and crying.

The officer stated in the report that he noticed damage to school property and tried numerous times to calm the girl, who eventually "pulled away and began actively resisting and fighting with me."

"The child was then placed in handcuffs for her safety and the officer proceeded to bring her down to the police station," said Chief Dray Swicord.

Corrections Corporation of America Wants to Spend $250 Million to Buy and Privatize Public Prisons.  Please Contact Your Governor on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 and Tell Him or Her to Tell CCA "No" to Prison Privatization.

As people of faith, join us in urging our Governors to publicly commit to decline CCA's offer to buy up and privatize state prisons. On Wednesday April 18th, call and ask your State Governor to make a public commitment before June 1, 2012 to decline CCA's offer to privatize prisons.

Recently,Corrections Corporation of America's sent a letter to 48 US Governors offering to spend up to $250 million to buy prisons from state, local, and federal government entities on conditions of a minimum commitment of 20 years for the facility and maintaining 90% capacity over the twenty year period.

These outrageous offer strikes at the heart of a democracy grounded in human rights and compassion within our criminal justice system - our beliefs in fair and just punishment, rehabilitative and restorative justice, death and dying with dignity. Out of concern for the mass criminalization and incarceration for all of our brothers and sisters who are racially profiled, rounded up on behalf of the War on Drugs, and warehoused in prisons, we will not be silent!

Somebody just tried to kill my little sister! Like most of us, she works hard to put food on the table. She has a son and daughter, both still in diapers. She has a mortgage, student loans, and a greedy little dog named Sir. Everyday she pounds the pavement in and around Chicago, trying to make a living doing real estate.

At 9:45 a.m. last Friday, she found herself parked on a residential block in the city's notorious Roseland neighborhood on the far South Side of Chicago. Having just wrapped up a phone call, she put her hand on the door handle to get out of her car. That's when all hell broke loose.

Dear Trayvon
by D.L. Hughley, Comedian and Actor
D.L. Hughley

When I was 17 I had dabbled with weed and alcohol, hell I still do (some things never change). I had been expelled from three schools for all sorts of reasons: problems with authority, fighting, and truancy. I did not graduate from high school, and only received my GED years later when I was a husband and a father.

Thankfully my life is not the sum parts of who I was and what I did when I was 17. I went on to have a beautiful wife and three children. My two oldest are already college graduates and my youngest will be graduating in two years. I am a King of Comedy and I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best talents in the world. I have had several of my own televisions shows, radio shows, and in August I will release my first book.

I cannot help but wonder how people would have remembered me had my life been cut short at 17. I feel a profound sense of loss when I think of you, Trayvon.

Student loan debt
a growing threat to the economy

$870 billion in outstanding balances

Move over, mortgages. Get out of the way, Greece. Another economic doomsday scenario is emerging.

Student loan debt has reached about $870 billion, exceeding credit cards and auto loans, and balances are expected to continue climbing, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said last month. In February, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys referred to a "student loan 'debt bomb'" and wondered if it was shaping up to become "America's next mortgage-style economic crisis." Such a burden could crimp an already weak economy.

THE BIG STORY, BY E.J. DIONNE
Instead of fighting a phony mommy war over what Hilary Rosen said about Ann Romney, we should face the fact that most families these days cannot afford to have one parent stay home with the kids. This is not about "lifestyle" or "values." This is an economic struggle highlighting yet again the social costs arising from decades of stagnating or declining wages and growing income inequality. BATTLE FOR CONGRESS

STRANGE BUT TRUE
Mitt Romney won't be in attendance at the 2012 Dressage World Cup, which starts today, but he and his wife Ann will play a very personal role in the tournament's outcome. The Romneys are high-profile participants in dressage, the classical European sport of dancing horses.

The Romneys own eight dressage horses -- at tremendous financial cost -- and at this year's World Cup, Mitt Romney made the critical choice of which music will accompany their horse's performance: a selection of songs from the movie soundtracks of Rainman and The Mission. READ MORE

Grayson: Words. Deeds. And Guts

The National Memo
--- Sponsored Email ---
Dear National Memo Reader:

It takes courage to stand on the floor of Congress and tell the truth about the suffering that Republican opposition to affordable health care will cause. And it takes courage to call out the Republican Congressional leadership for pushing through still more excessive tax cuts for the rich. It takes courage, because the Koch brothers and the whole gang of partisan plutocrats will come after any outspoken progressive with millions of dollars. That's exactly what they did to Rep. Alan Grayson in 2010. So please consider his urgent message today. Because this time we can't let the plutocrats win.

Sincerely,
Harold Itzkowitz
Associate Publisher on behalf of The National Memo Team

Dear Friend

Two years ago, I was fed up with endless right-wing attacks on Democratic plans to help the 50 million Americans who can't see a doctor when they're sick, and to make healthcare affordable for everyone else. So I stood on the Floor of the House, and mocked the Republicans for their "healthcare plan":
  1. Don't get sick.
  2. If you do get sick, die quickly.
And when the Republicans demanded an apology - an apology for pointing out the obvious - I did apologize: to the 40,000 Americans who die each year because they have no healthcare, and to their loved ones.
In an oversight hearing two years ago, I got the Inspector General of the Federal Reserve to admit that she had no idea what happened to the Fed's then-known $1 trillion in bailout money. That has become the most-watched Congressional video in history, with over five million views. I then teamed up with Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) to do something about it; we passed his 24-year-old bill to audit the Fed. The resulting audit report disclosed an astounding $17 trillion in secret bailouts - more than America's GNP.
With 70% of the homeowners in my district owing more on their mortgages than their homes were worth, and thousands fighting foreclosures, I introduced an innovative mandatory mediation program that cut foreclosures in half. The program was so successful that it was adopted statewide.
I was actually in the courtroom when the Supreme Court handed down the Citizens United decision, giving giant corporations a green light to inundate us with campaign propaganda. I said that night on MSNBC, "if we do nothing, then you can kiss this country goodbye."And I did something -- I introduced eight bills in our "Save Democracy" platform, three of which were included in the DISCLOSE Act passed by the House. And to demonstrate popular support for campaign reform, we collected over 100,000 signatures on our Save Democracy petition, and delivered that petition to the U.S. Supreme Court.
A year ago, when the Republicans were so bent on extending their tax cuts for the rich, I calculated and exposed on the Floor of the House just how much money these tax cuts were worth each year for Rush Limbaugh ($2,689,135), Glenn Beck ($1,512,352), Sean Hannity ($1,006,352), Bill O'Reilly ($914,352), Sarah Palin ($638,352), Newt Gingrich ($247,352) and George W. Bush himself ($187,552).
And when Fox News attacked me, I hit back on national TV, labeling them "Monty Python's Lying Circus." I also pointed out that more people watch the Cartoon Network than Fox News - they both show cartoons all day long, but the ones on the Cartoon Network are funny.
What does all this mean? That I'm fighting for the things that you believe in. If you want to support a candidate who has earned your support, then click here and join our grassroots campaign.
But courage and outspokenness has a price. In the 2010 election, the Koch Brothers spent $2 million to defeat me. Health insurance lobbyists, who were incensed that I had introduced a four-page bill to open Medicare to any American who would pay for it, spent $2 million defeat me. The National Republican Congressional Committee declared me their #1 target in the nation, and they spent $1 million to defeat me. A few weeks before the election, Politico calculated that almost 20% of all of the special interest sewer money in the entire country had been spent against me.
Which is why I need your help. Please click here to contribute to our campaign.
Let's face it: the big corporations, the lobbyists and the special interests aren't going to give my campaign a penny. They know that I'm not going to put the law up for sale to the highest bidder, the way they want. I'm not going to give them a no-bid government contract, a tax break, a bailout or an earmark. So I have to turn to you, and people like you, for support. People who want nothing in return for their contribution but good government - government of the people, by the people and for the people.
Time and time again, I have said the things that you've been thinking, but no one else has been saying. Please join the 100,000 contributors who are the real power behind our People Power campaign.
The People, united, will never be defeated. Join our campaign today.
Courage,
Alan Grayson
