National Action Network | No Justice, No Peace:

I wrote this letter to the Chief of Police of Illinois' Village of South Holland Police Department (SHPD) after his police officers would not file criminal charges against a man who came to my home and threaten to kill me. This threat was presented in front of my grandchildren. After my letter and continued pressure, SHPD decided to charge the person with a Village of South Holland Code Violation, holding a hearing in the neighboring Village of Lansing where they had cases of dogs urinating on other peoples property, auto violations, and Village code violations. This person who threaten my life was found guilty of the Village of South Holland's "Code Violation" and given a $100.00 fine. This is the first letter I wrote about this incident.

National Action Network | No Justice, No Peace:

The Trayvon Martin case shines the light on police departments all over this nation. Those police departments across our nation who enact laws on people of color that are discriminatory will be targeted for redress, such as the South Holland Police Department in Illinois. The South Holland Police Department in Illinois is no different in its legal practices against people of color than the Sanford Police Department in the Trayvon Martin case. People of color must stand up for their legal rights. If you see or are part of an injustice by a police department, report it. If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. When you complain righteously, you get the results the Trayvon Martin family is getting right now. When these police departments violate your rights or operate indifferently against you because of your race, report them to the National Action Network and other organizations who advocate for justice.

I reported to the South Holland Police Department in Illinois that a person threaten to kill me. This threat came in front of my grandchildren. An Investigator from the Calumet City, Illinois Police Department witnessed this person getting out of his car, in front of my house, and approaching me in a hostile manner. This Calumet City Police Investigator called 911. The South Holland Police Department refused to file charges against this person who threaten to kill me in front of my grandchildren. I continued to pursue the charges against this person by writing letters to the Chief of Police of the South Holland Police Department. The South Holland Police Department filed minor charges against the person where the court hearing was held in "community" police station where the person was found guilty of a minor charge and fined $100.00.

I wrote a letter to the Chief of Police for the South Holland Police Department about this fiasco and posted it on my blog and on the Internet for public viewing. I believe this happened in 2011.

What happened to Trayvon Martin is happening all over this nation. I am Trayvon Martin. I am Trayvon Martin. I am Trayvon Martin....

THE BIG STORY, BY JOE CONASON
When George W. Bush made a rare public appearance in New York on Tuesday, his utterances perhaps revealed more than he intended. "I wish they weren't called the 'Bush tax cuts'," he said of the decade-old rate reduction bearing his name. But does he truly believe, as his words hinted, that Americans would let those cuts expire simply to spite him? Or does he secretly wish the self-serving profligacy and ideological overreach of those cuts had not so starkly defined his presidency?

Whatever his inner motives, Bush's curious remark draws a sharp contrast with his predecessor Bill Clinton -- who proudly recalls the tax increase that was central to his inaugural budget two decades ago. In speeches, Clinton often says that the 1993 tax increase, supported only by Democrats, was the key to balanced growth and reduced deficits.

It isn't clear whether Bush fully understands the painfully obvious effects of his tax and spending policies. Not only should the tax cuts be named after him. So should the deficit and the debt. READ MORE

EXIT LITTLE RICKY
Bowing to the inevitable after an improbably resilient run for the White House, Rick Santorum quit the presidential race on Tuesday, clearing the way for Mitt Romney to claim the Republican nomination.

"We made a decision over the weekend, that while this presidential race for us is over, for me, and we will suspend our campaign today, we are not done fighting," he said. READ MORE

THE MYTH OF THE SOUTH BEACH
Chastened Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen sat alone at a podium and began in Spanish, then halted in the middle of a sentence when his voice wavered. He took a sip of water and cleared his throat, then continued. Suspended for five games Tuesday because of his comments lauding Fidel Castro, Guillen again apologized and said he'll do whatever he can to repair relations with Cuban-Americans angered by the remarks. According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is in a tenuous position as he enters the general election. He trails President Barack Obama overall by eight percentage points, and he also lags badly on many key issue comparisons. After nearly a full year of campaigning, Romney's message evidently is still not resonating with most voters. READ MORE

TRAYVON MARTIN
The Trayvon Martin case took a bizarre turn Tuesday when George Zimmerman's attorneys quit, complaining that they have lost all contact with him and that he called the prosecutor and talked to a TV host after they told him not to speak to anyone. The lawyers portrayed the former neighborhood watch captain as erratic and his mental state as shaky -- and they expressed fear for his health under the pressure that has been building in the month since he shot and killed Martin, an unarmed black teenager.
