Romney downplays expectations, Gingrich surges as South Carolina votes - CNN.com:

What I find disheartening and disturbing about the Republican debates, their candidates, and their constituents is their racist dispositions, attitudes, and character. There is no morality. There is no honesty. There are no values that encompass the nation as a whole. This has been expressly exposed in the South. Anyone who supports the Republican party supports racism, division, inequalities among the races and the nation, and the 1%. These are not Christians. They may be the Christians of slavery and separatism. Herman Cain is an idiot.

The Big Story, By Jonathan Alter
If the president doesn't give us specific ideas of what he wants to do in a second term, he'll have a harder time winning one. The State of the Union is where the president must actually explain how he would reduce income inequality, revive the middle class, and restore faith in our battered democratic institutions. We seldom know the ultimate deadline for our lives. Most of us try not to think about it. Facebook has made denial a bit harder with a new application that allows members to record or write their final messages, which will be posted after they die. In true American fashion, the app is titled "If I Die." Not when. If. I am reminded of an Irish doctor at the Cleveland Clinic who once told me, with a wry smile, "In America, death is an option." Labor Fight
Facing a legislative vote that would make Indiana a right-to-work state, alarmed union members just might try to present their case on America's biggest stage -- the Super Bowl. Labor activists will soon decide whether to go ahead with protests that could include Teamsters clogging city streets with trucks and electricians staging a slowdown at the convention center site of the NFL village. "You can tell them we'll take the Super Bowl and shove it," said Jeff Combs, organizing director for Teamsters Local 135 in Indianapolis. READ MORE

SOPA
Facing a storm of protest over online piracy legislation, Senate and House leaders said Friday they will put off further action on the measure. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he was postponing a test vote set for Tuesday "in light of recent events." Those events included a petition drive by Google that attracted more than 7 million participants and a one-day blackout by the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. READ MORE

This is Herman Cain!
Cheerleaders, a marching band, and a choir accompanied Herman Cain and Stephen Colbert yesterday as they marched through the campus of the College of Charleston for a rally. Cain, who is still officially on the ballot in South Carolina, wore his black cowboy hat. Colbert told a crowd of more than 3,000 -- most of them students -- that he's "believed in the message of Herman Cain for several days now."

"Herman Cain is a business leader. Herman Cain is a family man. Herman Cain is an outsider. In fact he's such an outsider he is not even running for president anymore," Colbert gushed. READ MORE

GOP Primary
Mitt Romney pronounced himself in a neck-and-neck race with Newt Gingrich on the eve of South Carolina's pivotal presidential primary and pressed his chief rival Friday to release more details about his ethical problems as House speaker. The Gingrich camp retorted that Romney's campaign is "on a panic-attack" after losing ground in recent polls. Coupled with Perry's endorsement of Gingrich, those polls suggest Gingrich is the candidate with momentum while Romney struggles to consolidate his standing as front-runner. READ MORE
